"What Christmas Means to Me" Literary/Art Contest ran for 7 years with 1000s of entries. Thank you to Ben Hawkins of Blackcomb Helicopters for every year offering the helicopter ride grand prize! That means that almost 50 people got to see Squamish from the air!! To all the budding writers and artists - keep showing off your amazing creative sides!
The Literary/Art Contest was open to students age 6-12 in Squamish. The lucky winners got to fly in a Blackcomb Helicopter with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Organized by Double Shutter Images and Blackcomb Helicopters.
2020 & 2021 Literary/Art Contest The contest is postponed but we encourage everyone to continue to be creative and to start new traditions as you celebrate Christmas.
2019 Literary/Art Contest Wow over 140 entries for “What Christmas Means To Me” contest!! The winners for the literary/art contest are: Ella Henriques from Squamish Waldorf School, Estelle Joel from Ecole Squamish Elementary, and Taya Fleming from Valleycliffe Elementary. Thank you to all the schools and individuals who submitted such amazing entries.
2018 Literary/Art Contest Wow, this year we had over 90 entries.The judges were Darren and Marshall from Mountain FM and Ben from Blackcomb Helicopters and they had some very hard decisions to make. Thank you to everyone who entered! The winners got a helicopter ride with Santa, hot chocolate and cookies with Mrs. Claus and the Blackcomb Helicopters Elves, as well as photos of the event from Double Shutter Images. We have been holding this contest for 6 years now with 4 winners each year. This year Ben Hawkins of Blackcomb Helicopters has generously added two more flights so we have 12 winners! And the winners are: Aria MacIver, Shaelynn Williams, Matilda Vasina, Pemba Lama, Ella Condon, Sylvia Schnur, Ryan Green, Sienna Heslop, Isla MacDonald, Evan MacDonald, Holly Williams, and David Gultiano. 2017 Literary/Art Contest The entries for this year's "What Christmas Means To Me" Literary/Art Contest were amazing. This is the 5th year that Blackcomb Helicopters and Double Shutter Images have sponsored this contest. 2016 Literary/Art Contest Thank you to Blackcomb Helicopters, Britannia Mine Museum, and Double Shutter Images for putting together this wonderful Christmas Adventure! Three winners will be flying with Santa and Mrs. Claus from Blackcomb Helicopters at Squamish Airport to Britannia Mine Museum and their Holidays in Britannia event. They will have their photos taken by Double Shutter Images for a memory keepsake of their experience. Thank you to our judges: Ben Hawkins from Blackcomb Aviation, Diane Mitchell from Britannia Mine Museum, Darren McPeake from Mountain FM, and Darren Roberts from The Chief. 2015 Literary/Art Contest We had 91 amazing entries this year! Thank you to everyone who put so much effort and talent into this year's contest. The three literary/art pieces that were chosen this year were by Cailyn Van Raalte, Mattie Shier, and Elaina Zohner. Their Christmas Adventure included a helicopter ride with Santa for the Santa Fly In from Blackcomb Aviation to Squamish Terminals for treats. They then continued to Bistro & Gelato Carina to listen to live music and have photos with Santa by Double Shutter Images. Congratulations! An added bonus this year was having Vanessa Ybarra and Ian Dunsmore from Shaw join us for the adventure. 2014 Literary/Art Contest had some amazing submissions. It was a tough decision for our three judges but a decision has been made and three winners announced. Thanks to Carl Brown from Mountain FM, Kim Stegeman-Lowe from Squamish Terminals, and Ben Hawkins from Blackcomb Aviation for being our honourary judges. The three winners will have a Christmas Adventure as they fly with Santa and his Elves in a Blackcomb Aviation helicopter from the Squamish Airport to Squamish Terminals for treats. They will then head over to the Squamish Christmas Market for goodies from Gelato Carina and photos with Santa from Double Shutter Images. Congratulations to the winners!
2013 Literary/Art Contest Thank you to all the students who entered amazing writings and art to the Squamish Christmas Market Literary/Art Contest for 2013. It was a tough decision for our judges Kim Stegeman from Squamish Terminals, Ben Hawkins from Blackcomb Aviation, and Carl Brown from Mountain FM. The winners were Victoria Scoten, Allan Barbour, and Nathaniel Flores-Sands. Congratulations! They were flown with Santa in a Blackcomb Aviation helicopter from Squamish Airport to Squamish Terminals where they were served hot chocolate and cookies. They then had a horse-drawn carriage ride by Diamond Head Outfitters to the Squamish Christmas Market where they got treats from Gelato Carina and photos with Santa and the Grinch from Double Shutter Images. They then enjoyed the rest of the activities at the Squamish Christmas Market with their family and friends.
