Spirit of Giving Contest
Spirit of Giving Contest was a way for us to recognize the youth of Squamish who volunteer in our community throughout the year. Although the Spirit of Giving Contest has ended, we see your involvement and thank you for all that you do.
The Spirit of Giving Contest was open to youth age 13-25 in Squamish. Winners were treated to a flight in a helicopter over Squamish with Blackcomb Helicopters. Organized by Double Shutter Images and Blackcomb Helicopters.
2020 & 2021 Spirit of Giving Contest The contest is postponed but we encourage everyone to continue to be part of our amazing community.
Spirit of Giving Contest 2019 Here is an article in The Squamish Chief, December 10, 2019:
The Giving Kind: Four Squamish youth were recently recognized for their contributions to the community. They won the "Spirit of Giving" contest, which included a helicopter ride over the Tantalus Range for the winners: Ryan Grimm (Squamish BMX), Hali ScottSmith (Playing for Change), Lily Jarrett (Squamish Scouts and Big Brothers Big Sisters), and Kiarrah Tress (Skate Sea2Sky), shown in the photo with Blackcomb Helicopters pilot Pat Fonseca.
The contest is for youth ages 13 to 25 who volunteer and give back to their communities and is hosted by Cindy Cardiff of Double Shutter Images in partnership with Ben Hawkins of Blackcomb Helicopters... Darren McPeake and Marshall Whitsed of Mountain Morning picked the winners.

Spirit of Giving Contest 2018 Last year we created a new contest “The Spirit of Giving” to recognize the youth of Squamish for their volunteer work in our community. We are very impressed with the range of activities and the number of hours they are contributing, to places such as Hilltop House, Scouts, the Food Bank, music lessons, Britannia Mine Museum, Community Christmas Care, Loggers Sports, Skate Sea2Sky, Squamish Watershed Society, shoreline cleanups, Squamish Dirt Bike Club, West Coast Railway Association, Howe Sound Senior Secondary, Test of Metal, Whistler Ironman, Terry Fox Run, Squamish Youth Triathlon and the list goes on. This year we are recognizing Lucy Gill, Rueben Jones, Harnoor Khosa, Wyatt Cardiff, Ryelin McCarten, and Dillon Jones. They will be treated to a helicopter ride with Blackcomb Helicopters and photos acknowledging them by Double Shutter Images. Congratulations!
Spirit of Giving Contest 2017 New this year is the Spirit of Giving Contest. Blackcomb Helicopters and Double Shutter Images wanted to do something new to give back to our community and to promote the Spirit of Christmas so we are starting the Spirit of Giving Contest to encourage the youth of today and the givers of tomorrow. Judges were: Ben Hawkins from Blackcomb Helicopters, Darren McPeake and Marshall Whitsed from Mountain FM, and Diane Mitchell from Britannia Mine Museum. We were all blown away with the involvement in our community of the youth that entered. Five high school students have positively impacted the following: Squamish Community Christmas Care, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Me and We, Squamish Food Bank, Provincial Eating Disorders Awareness Campaign, SPCA, Squamish Breakfast Club, Camp Summit, Squamish Elementary Reebok BOKS early morning fitness, WCRA, Squamish Seniors Centre, Shelterbox, plus more. We want to recognize these five youth: Eva Vanden Heuvel, Christian Smith, Alexandra Laviolette, Teresa Donovan, and Jennie Lie. As their contributions to our community was so impressive, the judges decided to reward all five youth with the helicopter ride together. Unfortunately only three can make it, so Mountain FM will be joining them for the flight. Congratulations and thank you all for showing us your Spirit of Giving.
